Good morning! Due to ongoing poor visibility the Groton Area School District will be opening two hours late on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. OST will open at 7:00 AM.
This has been updated to reflect a meeting start time of 4:00 PM.
There will be a mandatory information meeting and sign up for the 2023 trap shooting season on Sunday, February 19 at 4:00 PM in the Groton Area High School Library Conference Room.
Welcome to the snapper report! This week’s report is brought to you by Karsyn Jangula. Snapper’s weigh in for February 7th was 133.56 grams. For the past week snapper has grown 10.56 grams. Snapper’s tank has a lot of colorful pebbles he tries to eat daily and has a lot of rocks Mrs. Gonsoir found outside the school. In the wild, snapping turtles can live up to 30 years old. Snapping turtles can hold their breathe from anywhere to 45-50 minutes. In Chemistry we are learning about molar mass and how to find molar mass and percentage composition in compounds.

Welcome to The Snapper Report! This week’s report is brought to you by Abby Yeadon. Snapper’s weigh in for 1/31 was 123g. For the past week snapper has grown 25.5g. Snapper’s tank in the classroom has grown a lot, there is a lot of algae on the rocks and Snapper’s shell and tail. He has been a good thing for our classroom cause it helps show how wildlife grows. Snapper’s species is a common snapping turtle. Common snapping turtles scientific name is Chelydra serpentina. Right now, in Chemistry, we are studying Measuring matter and Moles
The Boys varsity basketball game scheduled in Madison today has been canceled.

Welcome to the Snapper Report! This week’s report is brought to you by Cadence Feist. Snapper’s weight went down from Last week! He lost .09 grams; therefore, he weighs 97.5 grams. Mrs. Gonsoir rearranged Snapper’s tank recently and he has started swimming more and more! Fun fact, you can find the common snapping turtle all the way from southeastern Canada to the southern tip of the Florida panhandle. In class we are learning about “The Mole.”
Welcome to The Snapper Report! This week’s report is brought to you by Camryn Kurtz. Snapper’s weigh in from 2 weeks ago was 72.18, but now it is 97.59! Snapper has gown 25.41 grams in the span of 2 weeks. Snapper’s environment has a massive rock where he’s typically under, and he has a loud filter that runs 24/7. Snapping turtles kill other turtles by biting off their heads. This behavior might be to protect their territory from other turtles, or it may be a very inefficient feeding behavior. Currently in Chemistry we are learning about the different types of bonds. The two main ones are Ionic which is when a nonmetal and a metal bond, and covalent which is when two nonmetals bond.
Due to road conditions tonight’s junior high boys basketball game versus Milbank has been canceled. There’s no information about a make up date at this time.

Snapper’s weigh in for December 20, 2022, was 54.56 grams. Due to us not being able to take a report last week, Snapper has grown quite a bit. He has grown 8.79 grams from two weeks ago. Snapper has been moving around more and enjoys sitting on top of his rock. Snapper’s main diet is currently still ReptoMin floating food sticks. He sometimes will eat mealworms, but it depends on the day. The average speed of a snapping turtle on land is 2.4 mph but can increase up to 10 to 12 mph when they are in water. In Chemistry l right now, we are learning about metallic bonds and the properties of metals. Come back when Christmas break is over to see Snapper’s progress!
Due to the forecast for high winds, dangerous wind chills, and blowing snow creating the potential for hazardous travel, the Groton Area School District will be closed on Thursday, December 22.
The elementary Christmas program scheduled for Thursday will be postponed to Friday, January 13 at 2:30 PM.
The boys basketball games at Aberdeen Roncalli for Thursday night will also be postponed.
