The Groton Area School District will participate in the statewide "Let It Shine" event on Friday, May 1 from 9:30 PM to 10:00 PM.
According to the Let It Shine SD Facebook page, "On May 1st between 9:30 and 10 pm (CST), residents, communities, schools, and businesses are invited to go outside and “let it shine.” Shine for those who are sick and for those who are on the front lines, providing critical care. Shine a light for our decision makers who are in uncharted territory. Shine support for our student who will finish this year at home and for their teachers making continual adjustments and working long hours to make sure learning continues. Shine strength for those working from home, and those who do not have the option to work from home. Shine hope for those are feeling despair and loss."
We are thankful for those members of our community called to serve others in so many ways. The circumstances surrounding COVID-19 highlight our interdependence of each member of our community from those working to teach our kids, to those stocking shelves at the grocery store, to those working daily to keep our communities safe and health, to the ag producers still working to ensure we have continued access to food, to the truckers and delivery personnel, and everyone in between.
We also recognize and support our students who have been impacted and have missed out on experiences important to them. Athletics seasons, field trips, music concerts, and field days may not be replaced.
We will let the football field lights shine brightly on Friday in unity with our neighbors all across SD as a visual display of support for everyone impacted by this pandemic.
