FOREIGN LANGUAGE
ELECTIVE
CLASSES:
SPANISH
I
Spanish
I will introduce the students to basic vocabulary, grammar,
common expressions of the Spanish language, and TPR Total
Physical Response to increase fluency. Students will also
learn many customs and traditions of the Hispanic people.
Short stories, songs, audio and video tapes are used to
supplement the text. Students experience authentic Spanish
and Mexican cuisine. Students participate in events at
Festival of Cultures in Brookings and take a field trip to a
Mexican restaurant for experience using the language.
SPANISH
II
Students
in Spanish II will learn more complex language skills and
will work at perfecting their use of the language. Short
stories, computer programs, short plays, and written
compositions are used along with the textbook. More
emphasis is placed on oral conversation to enhance
proficiency.
Students
are required to pass a series of verb competency tests.
They will learn all seven simple tenses and two compound
tenses. Spanish II students will also take the National
Spanish Exam in March.
