ART EDUCATION
ELECTIVE CLASSES:
ART I
Grades 10-12
A basic
art-studio introduction course utilizing the elements,
principles, fundamentals of art and artistic awareness. All
art experiences are based on the design elements of line,
shape and form, texture, value, color and space, related
fundamentals of balance, rhythm, and unity.
Students will make use of a number of mediums in the
application of design elements and fundamentals.
The specific course contains projects in design, drawing,
perspective, composition, printmaking, pottery, sculpture,
calligraphy, watercolor, acrylics, scratch art, balsa
carving, papermaking, and collage.
Students will study various art periods and artists as they
relate to the projects.
Students will display work at the Spring Music & Art Show.
Students are able to compete at the All Dakota High School
Fine Arts Exhibition at the Granary.
ART II
Elective upon completion of Art I.
Art II
offers the student more advanced work with previous medium
and also exposure to new medium such as silk-screen, batik,
acrylic and watercolor painting, scratch art, tie-dye, balsa
carving, pottery, commercial art and wall murals.
The
drawing unit includes a variety of medium and subjects.
Watercolor and acrylic painting are given major emphasis.
Acrylic painting on canvas follows the study of watercolor.
Another
area that may be covered is a batik unit which includes
designing with wax, mixing and drying fabrics. This is an
ancient form of printing fabrics. Silk-screening involves
designing ideas, preparing film, and printing on paper,
wood, fabric, etc. Sculpture is done with pottery clay,
sculpture clay or other materials.
Students
will do studies of famous artists’ work and study different
periods in Art History.
Students
will display work at the Spring Music and Art Show.
Students are able to compete at the All Dakota High School
Fine Arts Exhibition at the Granary.
ART III
This
class is only for students who have successfully completed
the Art I and Art II courses.
Students
are given assigned projects in various areas and are allowed
to try new areas of study. They are encouraged to build on
their talents. The students will write reports about
artists they find interesting and also about various art
styles.
Students
will display work at the Spring Music and Art Show.
Students are able to compete at the All Dakota High School
Fine Arts Exhibition at the Granary
